The dew was thick on one of the last Saturdays left in summer here in Maine. While we drove two hours to get the the boat–once we boarded the ferry it felt like home because of the countless times we have traveled out to Peaks Island in Portland. I was excited to meet Lisa and her husband to be (Jeff) for the first time. They live in Park City, Utah high in the hills and enjoy being outside and just generally having a good time together. We pulled up to the family’s home that has been passed down for generations–it was huge and beautiful for all of its untouched elements. It wasn’t long until we felt like part of the crew and were welcomed by the father of the bride. I love weddings where people are enjoying the day before and try to keep their preparations as short as they can. I found them out on the dock swimming, sunning, and drinking together. Soon enough I was wrapped up in stories of old times in Costa Rica and found myself mesmerized by their love story. Its not everyday when a man’s best guy friend says “All he could talk about when he returned from the trip where he met Lisa was her” he just knew right off she was the one for him. Lisa on the other hand needed a few acts from a higher power to get her to fall crazy in love with Jeff. You see they met in Costa Rica where Lisa was living for a while–and she provided great surf tips and boards but they stayed just friendly there. Then she went to visit because she was going to be around the area where he was living and as she went to leave her car broke down….she never did end up leaving the rest is history. This wedding had the best first dance I have ever seen it was filled with personality and despite all the people watching it was just about the two of them. If you haven’t heard their first dance song “In Spite of Ourselves” you should download it–it is worth a listen 🙂 There was a wonderful band who played gypsy jazz and then her brother took over to DJ. He was the best DJ I have ever seen or heard–to bad he lives in Los Angeles. What a wonderful wedding–what a wonderful family–and what a fabulous future they have to look forward too.
