While in San Antonio I had the pleasure of photographing a Valentines Day themed engagement shoot. I absolutely adore Kaylen and Dylan….they were truly an inspiration. Kaylen runs her own business and Dylan is just finishing business school. The love they have for each other and for God provides me with such hope and faith and is a reminder of how many wonderful people there are out there! Here is a bit about them…..
How long have you been together? Our seven year anniversary is on February 28th.
How did you meet? This has a lot of details so you’re more than welcome to shorten it 🙂
The first time I saw him was in 5th grade. He was one of the only boys that was taller than me (my, how that has changed!). I had the biggest crush on him and the whole school knew, but he never gave me the time of day. After being in the same homeroom class in 6th grade, I had given up on the hope of him ever liking me.
Fast forward to high school. I casually dated a few other guys in 9th and 10th grade (nothing serious). Dylan decided he liked me now but I was over him. Without fail, I’d get texts from Dylan between dating those few boys. I would tell my mom “UGH, Dylan Shuck is texting me again!” In 10th grade I led him on for four months and finally agreed to go on a date with him. The rest is history 🙂
How did he propose? In high school his cousin took our senior pictures in a cute little town called Gruene. Most of the pictures were true “senior pictures,” but we took a few of them together. Dylan was graduating from UTSA on December 17th and his mom wanted his sister-in-law to take his senior pictures December 16th in Gruene and have us recreate some of the shots we took as high school seniors.
After about an hour of shooting in various locations in Gruene, we were going to take the last couple pictures at a bed and breakfast with a beautiful outside area. He took some under the pergola by himself and then his sister-in-law told me to get in the last few shots. She said “Ok, let do some cheesy ones! Face each other and hold hands.” This was when Dylan popped the question! I was totally caught off guard and told him “thank you” instead of yes, haha!
Our family and close friends were hiding and watched the whole thing. They all ran out after to congratulate us and then we had an engagement party after. It was the best day!
What is one word that best describes your relationship? Inseparable
What is your favorite thing about each other?
Kaylen: Dylan is the sweetest, silliest, and most loyal person I’ve ever met! He has a heart of gold and he’s truly my best friend.
Dylan: She’s beautiful inside and out, has such a good heart, and cares about so many people.
Favorite date? We love to get dinner and see a funny movie!
