The rain held as Erin and Justin said their personal vows on the deck overlooking the mountains. It was a fun and intimate wedding full of wonderful people. The food was excellent and the dancing hilarious 🙂 They are certainly perfect for each other. He is the most sarcastic southern gentleman I have ever met and kept everyone laughing and she is as beautiful, sweet, and genuine as they come. Thank you for letting me capture the moments and memories. Erin said the most important thing to have on her wedding day were moments and capturing the fun and the story as it unfolded. She also said that her favorite part of planning the wedding was being able to let her creativity run. She loved choosing the decor and the dress 🙂 She sure did create a wonderful wedding weekend for everyone to enjoy at the Ski Esta in Newry Maine.
How did you meet? Justin and I met 8 years ago through my sister, Laura, who introduced us. We hit it off instantly! Justin was like a breath of fresh air. We really are a great balance for each other.
How did he propose? Justin and I had planned a trip to San Antonio and Austin, TX (two places we’d talked of visiting for years!) from Thurs Oct 27, 2011 – Monday Oct 31. On our first day (Thursday), we drove from Austin to San Antonio, and when we arrived, he suggested we go out to dinner. We decided on a steak house on the famed Riverwalk. We had a really nice dinner and then decided to go for a stroll on the Riverwalk. Justin seemed a little distracted and said he was looking for something.. so he kept looking at every map we came to. He said he’d researched it and wanted to show me something. I had absolutely no clue what he was looking for. We walked and walked, until we found an island that jutted out into the river a bit. There was a tiny foot bridge that crossed over to the small island, which was all lit up with white christmas lights and had such beautiful flowers planted around the perimeter. I was looking off into the distance, not even looking at Justin but just taking in the beautiful scenery. Justin began to explain the story of Marriage Island, and how it is said to bring good luck to all who become engaged on the island or get married on it. I turned around when it started to hit me what he was up to.. When I turned around, he was down on his knee, and said “..so let’s see if this good luck is really true”. He asked if I would marry him. I was in complete shock. After 7 years of being together, he still managed to completely surprise me. I had absolutely NO CLUE!!! And I’m usually pretty perceptive when something is up.. or rather when he is up to something! Still in shock, I just kept saying “you jerk! i had no idea!!!” and punching his arm lightly.. we were both laughing and hugging (and i was crying of course, haha).. Finally, he said, “well.. you still haven’t given me an answer!”. I said yes, of course 😉 I spent the rest of our trip trying to figure out how I missed the signs.. I honestly had no idea. And apparently I was the ONLY one that didn’t know – my parents and sister, his parents and brothers and sister, and many of our friends knew. He explained the story about the ring, too. When we were packing for our trip, he was obsessed with his eye glasses case. He said he was afraid to put it in his checked luggage in case his luggage got lost and he didn’t have his glasses for when he takes his contacts out. Come to find out, this was a big fat lie. He was hiding the ring in there! He must have asked me 3 or 4 times whether or not his glasses would be OK if he checked them in his luggage. I thought it was odd that he cared so much about some glasses he’s had forever and has talked about replacing many times. But the thought never crossed my mind that there was something more to it. And now, we look back on it and laugh.. I couldn’t have asked for a more romantic, thoughtful proposal. It is something I will never in a million years forget.
